Oh, My Dad!! (Japanese Title : Oh, My Dad!!)
“Whatever tomorrow brings, I know I can keep going on with you.” Oh, My Dad!! is the account of a father struggling to raise his son and overcome his own weaknesses of selfishness.
When Genichi was a college student, he gained public attention for his scientific work, but his research in the ensuing 18 years has been a succession of failures. At present, his wife has run away, he has no job, and was thrown out of his apartment for being unable to pay the rent. All Genichi has left are his five-year-old son and his dreams. Before his wife ran off, he left everything to her, from feeding their son, getting him dressed, dropping him off and picking him up from preschool, on and on, until the pressure became too great. But now it’s Genichi who’s in a tight spot and his travails as a single father begin here.
This heartwarming comedy-drama looks at the themes of loving another person, raising a child, and chasing your dreams, all through the lens of a “failure as a father.”
